CVS Supports Quitters

CVS Health teamed with DOSomething.org to launch "Quitters Always Win," a national smoking cessation campaign kicking off in time for New Year's resolution season.The effort encourages young people to create handmade cards asking friends and family who smoke to make quitting their resolution this year, and offers resources and encouragement to help them achieve that goal. Consumers sign up at dosomething.org/winner to receive tips and resources to help them make a "heartfelt" card.Participants who are 26 years old or younger can upload a photo of their card to enter a sweepstakes running through Jan. 31 and awarding a $5,000 scholarship to any college or graduate school within the U.S. Hip-hop duo Kalin and Myles lend their star power for the campaign by starring in a supporting PSA. (See below.)"We're so excited about this partnership with DoSomething.org to extend our commitment to help people lead tobacco-free lives and reach young people with tobacco-free messaging in unique and relevant ways," said Eileen Howard Boone, CVS Health senior vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, in a media release. "We know that seven out of 10 people want to quit smoking, and support from friends and family is one of the most important factors in being successful."In related activity, the drugstore retailer — which in 2014 eliminated the sale of cigarettes and tobacco — is spotlighting smoking cessation products. Circulars dropping Jan. 3 included a "Solutions for your resolutions" feature dangling "buy one, get one 50% off" on GlaxoSmithKline's Nicorette products and directing consumers to cvs.com for additional coupon savings. A Jan. 13 Facebook update again highlighted GSK's smoking cessation products along with Mars Inc.'s Orbit gum. In stores, standees dispense handouts on smoking cessation.
